Leftists offer to meet Armenian counterparts

4 August 2009 21:55 (UTC+04:00)
Three Azerbaijani leftist political parties have suggested meeting their Armenian counterparts. The decision was made by the Azerbaijan Socialist Party (ASP), the United Azerbaijan Communist Party and the Communist Party based on the Marxism-Leninism platform, a source from the ASP has said.
The decision says that the meetings between presidents of the two countries as well as public diplomacy are indicators of the growing confidence between the two nations and the emergence of dialogue.
``We believe that further to this development, we could conduct discussions at the level of parties and express our opinions on the issue,`` the parties said in a statement. ``Such discussions could also boost confidence between political parties and contribute to the adoption of objective decisions in the future. We stand ready to attend such a meeting on a neutral territory.``
