CE chief says jailed journalists key concern
The Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis has said the
imprisonment of journalists in Azerbaijan was his key concern.
"I have called on the Azerbaijani authorities on several occasions to free the jailed journalists. Some of them have been released, but the problem is still there," Davis told a press conference in Strasbourg on Tuesday, voicing hope that there would be no journalists behind bars in the country soon.
Four journalists are still imprisoned in Azerbaijan - the editor-in-chief of opposition Realniy Azerbaijan and Gundalik Azerbaijan newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev, an employee of opposition daily Azadlig, satirical journalist Mirza Sakit, Bizim Yol newspaper's writer Mushfig Huseynov and the editor-in-chief of opposition newspaper Azadlig Ganimat Zahid.
