Direct flights can link Poltava, Azerbaijan

Poltava airport was granted the status of an international airport, due to which direct flights from Poltava to Azerbaijan can be opened.

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine reported that the Cabinet of Ministers approved the opening of an international border crossing point on the territory of the airport of Poltava.

The international status will also allow Poltava airport to make flights from Poltava to Georgia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and other countries.

Earlier, the representative of the Ukrainian tour operator “Join UP!” said that the first international flight from Poltava will be held on May 2, 2018 to Antalya, Turkey.

Currently, 19 Ukrainian airports have international status.

Poltava Airport is a public airport located approximately 7 kilometres west of Poltava, Ukraine. It is one of two airfields near Poltava, the other being Poltava Airbase. The airport is located near the villages Ivashky and Suprunivka.

The airport Poltava was built in the 50’s – 60’s years of the last century. The airport has a passenger terminal with a total area of about 5,000 square meters and a throughput capacity of 400 passengers per hour.

Diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Azerbaijan were established on February 6, 1992.

Azerbaijan is considered one of the main trade partners of Ukraine among the CIS countries.

Main goods imported from Ukraine to Azerbaijan remains as mainly metallurgy products, machine building products, agro-industrial products, and chemical industry products. While main goods exported from Azerbaijan to Ukraine are generally products of fuel energy industry, chemical industry products, and agro-industrial products.

The country plans to open its second Trade House in Ukraine, while the first was opened in Belarusian capital Minsk this May.

The trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $390.76 million in January-July 2017, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
