A territory of 49,300 square meters has been completely cleared in Jojug Marjanli village of Azerbaijan’s Jabrayil region, National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) told Trend on November 30.
“Over the past day, an area of 49,300 square meters was cleared in the village, and 20,000 square meters were prepared for cleaning by special mechanical means,” the message says. No mines or unexploded ordnance were found.
Currently, ANAMA continues clearing of Jojug Marjanli from mines and UXOs. The operation involves 56 people.
Jojug Marjanli village was liberated by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces from the Armenian occupation in April last year. In late January 2017, President Ilham Aliyev ordered to restore the village.
Yesterday, the Agency informed about detection of a TM-62 mine amplifier in the village. The agency experts removed the unexploded ordnance for neutralization.
Moreover, last week, ANAMA found and removed three UXOs in Jojug Marjanli, including a TM-62 and two anti-tank unguided missiles PQ-7.
The Agency was established in 1998 for planning and coordination, management and monitoring of mine action related activities all over the country.
The problem of unexploded ordnance in Azerbaijan can be divided into the areas that are still under the occupation of Armenian forces and other areas of the country. Most of the unexploded ordinances are the result of Armenian aggression.
