Muslim youths urge Obama to condemn massacre
The youth forum of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will recommend to US President Barack Obama that an international expert commission be set up to study the humanitarian tragedies facing Muslim nations.
A source from the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora has said that the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation would suggest that the commission look into the atrocities perpetrated by the Armenians in Khojaly (Azerbaijan), Van (Turkey), as well as Deir Yassin (Palestine), Setif and Guelma (Algeria).
The appeal has been posted on the forum`s web site (
www.isyf-dc.org) and the list of signatories to it, together with the appeal, would be forwarded to the White House in two months.
OIC resolutions have described the Khojaly tragedy as a massacre of the civilian population and recommends that information about it be included in school textbooks in OIC member countries.
Thousands of Azerbaijani civilians were slain by Armenian forces in the Khojaly district, with the support of Russian troops on February 25-26, 1992. 613 people were brutally killed, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly residents. 1,275 were taken captives, while 487 were left handicapped and 150 went missing.
