Over 50 die in construction in 2007
Over half of some 100 deaths registered in 2007 took place during
construction operations, an official from the Ministry of Labor and
Social Security said.
"Most accidents happened in construction sites as a result of falls from height," head of the ministry's Labor Inspection, Nabi Shukurlu, told reporters.
Shukurlu said the inspection had repeatedly issued warnings calling for observation of safety regulations by using special belts, helmets and glasses as well as taking other measures.
25 people were killed, while seven others injured after a 16-story building under construction in the Yasamal district of Baku collapsed on August 28. According to experts, violation of safety procedures was one of the causes of the accident.
