Most labor migrants break the law - official
"There are two reasons for illegal activity of labor migrants -
their employers either have poor knowledge of the law or evade
getting authorization for their employment," head of the Labor and
Social Security Ministry's migration department Rauf Taghiyev told
journalists.
"Our goal is to protect the domestic market from illegal labor migrants," he said.
He said the greatest number of ex-pat workers come from Turkey, followed by Britain, and then citizens of other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.
Taghiyev said whereas earlier 98% of labor migrants were employed in the oil sector, the figure dropped to 54% this year.
The ministry official said there is no need to set an annual quota for the number of labor migrants, as there is no tension in the country in this respect.
About 30,000 foreign citizens are currently registered in Azerbaijan.
