Security chief: Armenian secret service most active in countering Azerbaijan
Armenian secret service agencies are pursuing aggressive activities against Azerbaijan, according to Eldar Mahmudov, Azerbaijani National Security Minister.
"This policy of Armenia is the primary threat to Azerbaijan`s national security," he told Russia`s Interfax news agency.
As an example, Mahmudov cited Armenia`s spying activity in the country and in neighboring Georgia and the disclosure of Ariz Khalilov, an ethnic Azerbaijani Georgian citizen who had been trained to commit terror in Azerbaijan. Khalilov was instructed to collect information about numerous important sites in the country and determine locations suitable for the planting of explosives. These sites included the oil refinery in Baku, where major energy infrastructure facilities are located, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline, as well as the transport network, including the Heydar Aliyev airport, the subway, shuttle buses traveling from the Azerbaijani capital to Georgia and large markets.
