Azerbaijan to pay 25,000 euro compensation to its citizen
Azerbaijan is required to pay a 25,000 euro
compensation to one of its citizens for the alleged violation of
her rights in October 2003, the European Court of Human Rights
ruled on Thursday.
In her lawsuit, Mahira Muradova claimed she was subjected to police violence during opposition protests against the 2003 presidential elections and she lost use of her right eye due to heavy blows she received from police.
The European court ruled that Muradova`s rights not to suffer torture and to receive a fair court investigation had not been ensured by the Azerbaijani government.
To date, the European Court of Human Rights has adopted 16 decisions regarding Azerbaijan, all in favor of its citizens.
