Toily Kurbanov, Deputy Executive Coordinator, United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme will visit Baku on May 22.

Kurbanov will meet the government of Azerbaijan to discuss global partnership priorities based on the Government’s vision for promoting volunteerism, and building on Azerbaijan’s longstanding culture of volunteer efforts.

During the two-day visit, the deputy executive coordinator will also conduct bilateral meetings with UN partners, e-government service Azerbaijan Service and Assessment Network (ASAN), academia, and explore avenues for multilateral cooperation with volunteer involving organizations.

“Around the globe, UN Volunteers work directly at the grassroots level and advance peace and development in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals,” Kurbanov underlined. “UN Volunteers embody the fundamental values of commitment, inclusiveness, engagement and solidarity.”

UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam M. Isaczai, in turn, hailed UNV’s return to Azerbaijan and its engagement with the Government of Azerbaijan and development partners to promote volunteerism for achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals.

UNV had over 6,500 UN Volunteers in 126 countries in 2016, supporting sustainable development as part of the workforce of our UN partners.

Besides, 13,000 UN Online Volunteers from around the world gave their time to engage in sustainable development virtually. With 84 percent of UN Volunteers coming from countries of the global South, UNV acts as a change agent for South-South cooperation within the UN system.
