Azerbaijan to sent firefighting planes to assist Israel
By Amina Nazarli
Azerbaijan’s Emergencies Ministry will send aid and equipment to Israel for tackling the fires, as wildfires swept into Israel’s largest cities, Trend reported.
The fires follow a two-month drought and are being fanned by strong winds. Wildfires are also threatening homes near Jerusalem and in the West Bank.
The Israeli government appealed to Azerbaijan for help. Under the presidential instructions, Azerbaijan will send amphibious aircraft and fire-fighting equipment to this country.
A number of countries, including Russia, Turkey, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece and Italy sent firefighting planes to assist Israel in tackling the fires, which officials said may have been started intentionally.
In several areas, the authorities declared the state of emergency and evacuated population. About 80,000 people have been told to evacuate their homes.
More than 130 people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries, mainly from smoke inhalation, but most were later discharged, Haaretz reported.
