11 February 2009 05:06 (UTC+04:00)
A policeman has been beaten up in Baku. Taleh Ismayilov, an employee of the city police`s patrol service, has been hospitalized with a broken nose and brain concussion, ANS TV reports.
According to Ismayilov, he was beaten up by civilians.
While on duty, he was called to assist inspectors of the traffic police. A car traveling in the vicinity of Azneft Square in the center of Baku broke traffic regulations and disobeyed the traffic police`s command to pull over by offering resistance. Although patrol policemen also arrived at the scene, the traffic offender, whose identity is not known, punched the policeman.
Ismayilov said the offender had already been detained. However, neither police nor the prosecutor`s office has confirmed whether a criminal case has been filed and have not provided any information about the detainee.
