Water level rises in local rivers

Continuous heavy showers in the regions in last couple of weeks have led to a significant increase in water levels of local rivers.
Elbrus Alizadeh, the deputy director of the Geography Institute under the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, said that the increased water level was mainly observed in the rivers of Greater Caucasus and middle and high mountainous parts of Small Caucasus, as well as in the Talysh Mountains.
“In some rivers, the water has reached the highest level and creates risk of flooding. At present, dangerous situation is observed in the Goychay rivers, Girdimanchay, Demiraparanchay, Kishchay, as well as in rivers running along the slopes of the Greater Caucasus,” he said.
The National Department for Hydrometeorology of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry reported that currently, water richness holds 170-210% of decade norm in Guba-Khachmaz region rivers of Major Caucasus, 170-230% in Small Caucasus rivers, 250-450% in Lankaran-Astara region rivers.
Moreover, on October 28 8cm fall in water level was issued in Giragkesemen settlement of Kura river. Currently water consumption holds 205m3/sec in the settlement, i.e 124% of decade norm (in 2015, 182m3/sec, i.e 110% of decade norm. some 8cm rise in water level has been observed in Ayrichay settlement of Qanikh River. At present, water consumption holds 156m3/sec, i.e 170% of decade norm. (in 2015, 124m3/sec, i.e 135% of decade norm).
The rise of water level has been observed in the downstream of Kura River. In this regard, 4 cm in Surra, Banka and Novruzlu settlement of Aras while 3 cm rise in Salyan. At present, water level holds 560cm (on October 28, 2015, 361cm) in Surra settlement, 410cm (on October 28, 2015, 200cm) in Salyan, 283cm (on October 28, 2015, 187cm) in Banka, while 270cm (on October 28, 2015, 78cm) in Novruzlu settlement of Aras river.
Meteorologists warn that in the regions of Azerbaijan the weather will be rainy on October 29.
The temperature will be +2-7˚C at night, +9-14˚C in the daytime, -2+3˚C in mountainous areas, +6-11˚C in the afternoon, 2-7 degrees of frost in highlands, 0-5 ˚C in the afternoon.
