Analyst chides Armenian PM's statement
Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sarkisian's allegation that a
preliminary agreement on settling the Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh
conflict could be signed by the country's presidential election due
in 2008 contradicts reality, an political analyst said.
Drawing up observations on the socio-political developments in the region and the world over in December, director of the Center for Political Innovation and Technology Mubariz Ahmadoghlu told the press Tuesday that the utterance runs counter to earlier statements made by President Robert Kocharian.
He reminded that Kocharian had said in Brussels that reaching agreement prior to the vote in Armenia was impossible, but his close ally, presidential hopeful Sarkisian cited a contrary opinion. "This shows that Serzh Sarkisian is trying to present himself as a supporter of peace to rally Western support at the upcoming elections," the analyst concluded.
