Turkish director to shoot film on Khojaly tragedy
Turkish film director Korhan Yurtsever will shoot a two-hour movie about the Khojaly massacre perpetrated by Armenians against Azeris in 1992.
The film, whose screen play was written by Yurtsever himself, will be shot both in Turkey and Azerbaijan, according to the Culture and Tourism Department of Baku.
Yurtsever, who was awestruck after seeing video-footage of a pregnant woman being tied to a tree and her abdomen being severed by Armenians, deemed it critical to shoot such a film to convey the horrors of the tragedy to the world community.
Turkish and Azerbaijani actors will star in the movie.
On February 25-26, 1992 Armenian forces attacked unarmed civilians in Khojaly with the support of Russian troops. 613 people were killed, while 1,275 were taken captive, 487 became handicapped and 150 went missing.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a cease-fire in 1994, but Armenia continues to occupy Upper Garabagh and seven other Azerbaijani districts in defiance of international law.
