The meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran Ilham Aliyev, Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani will be a step towards a redistribution of power fields in world policy and world history, says Maxim Shevchenko, a Russian TV presenter and former member of the country's Civic Chamber.

Baku summit of the Azerbaijani, Iranian and Russian presidents was held Aug. 8 in Baku.

In particular, the International North-South Transportation Corridor (INSTC) will contribute to this, if it is implemented, said Shevchenko.

“If a modern railway, modern transportation route is built, it will change a lot,” he told Trend.

He recalled that the Caucasus is located at the crossroads of global strategic communications from North to South and from East to West, and the route along the western shore of the Caspian Sea is one of the oldest trade routes from North to South.

Meanwhile, this route is more convenient than the route along the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea, where there are deserts, added the expert.

Shevchenko noted that the North-South project’s implementation will give an opportunity to restore the ancient communications, which were interrupted for various reasons – starting from the Cold War, the Iron Curtain, the collapse of the Soviet Union to the various conflicts.

There are forces that will actively hinder the project’s implementation in order not to lose control over the world’s transportation communications, he added.

The expert believes that the participation of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran in the project is enough for its success, since the transportation corridor will be provided from St. Petersburg and the Arctic Ocean to the Persian Gulf.

Other countries can also be partners on the project, but their participation is secondary, he added. Moreover, he thinks that if the consortium has fewer participants, it will be easier to negotiate.

“I believe that the meeting of the heads of the three states, representatives of the three worlds – Persian, Turkish and Russian – is an extremely important communication,” said Shevchenko.

He also noted that currently, a Russia-Iran-Turkey triangle is gradually formed that greatly changes not only the region’s map, but also the world map.

The West is no longer the center of the world, believes the expert. One of the strategic tasks of the 21st century of the rest of humanity is to make the West to cease being the center of history and the world, he added.

The expert said that the consolidation in the region will help to ensure security. He thinks that currently, the main threat for the region is the West, which considers itself the center of the world, which only has the right to decide the fates of all other nations.

There is a field for cooperation between Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran in the cultural sphere, said Shevchenko.

In Russia, there is poor knowledge about Nizami Ganjavi, the culture of Azerbaijani people, the Iranian culture, he noted adding that the culture of great people of the East, Asia Minor, the oldest cultural centers of civilization should come to Russia and vice versa.
