Baku to gain fantastic appearance soon [UPDATE]
By Amina Nazarli
Work on reconstruction and improvement of infrastructure in former “Sovetski” area in Baku’s Yasamal district, one of the historic quarter of Baku, is underway.
The reconstruction of this area is an important component of the General Plan for the development of the country’s capital and Absheron peninsular in whole. The Plan envisages establishing parks and squares, as well as new roads in the "Sovetski" area.
Experts believe that the improvement of the area along with improving living conditions of residents residing here are the priority of modern Baku appearance.
President Ilham Aliyev laid a foundation stone for a new road and transport infrastructure in former “Sovetski” area on August 4.
The reconstruction and landscaping work is carried out in the area by Azeravtoyol.
The first phase of the work to be carried out here will see the construction of roads in a three-hectare area and landscaping in a 23-hectare area.
Chairman of Azeravtoyol Saleh Mammadov said that the owners of 3,827 residential and non-residential areas were provided with compensations.
Azeravtoyol also plans to carry out major reconstruction work on five streets on the area, total length of which is more than 6 km.
The reconstruction will be carried out on Balababi Mejidov,
Abdullah Shaig, and Mirza Aga Aliyev streets as well as in the
definite parts of Fizuli and Nariman Narimanov streets. Previously,
these streets were narrow, lacking even pedestrian walkways in many
places, which created considerable difficulties for the movement of
vehicles and pedestrians.
After the reconstruction, there will be broad and convenient
streets with wide pedestrian walkways. Modern lighting system will
be installed and bus stations will be built along the roads.
It’s also predicted to replace and build up-to-date engineering
communication utilities such as sewage, domestic waste and
rainwater, as well as electric, gas and communication lines.
President Aliyev gave relevant instructions and recommendations.
Baku is getting more and more beautiful year by year thanks to new architectural monuments, high-rise modern buildings, and other unique buildings which have already turn into the symbols of the country.
Over the past few years, the government has taken important
steps by destroying and replacing buildings that hinder the
development and deteriorate appearance of the city.
One of these plans implies restoring “Sovetski” quarter, which has
buildings aged over 400 years, according to some sources.
Experts said that houses in this quarter were uninhabitable, adding that narrow streets, and small apartments in the "Sovetski", were not combined with a modern general appearance of Baku. Specialists claimed that household problems of the residents of the “Sovetski” increased with every years, noting that inhabitants were suffering from heat in summer and dampness in winter.
The project, however, has contributed to improving living conditions of people who for many years lived in emergency buildings.
