The pilot project on the implementation of mandatory health insurance system in Azerbaijan will not be expanded in 2019, Zaur Aliyev, chairman of the State Agency for Mandatory Health Insurance under the Cabinet of Ministers, told Trend on Jan. 31.

“The reason is that that the mandatory health insurance system will be implemented throughout the country from 2020,” he said.

"We have already begun preparatory work for the implementation of the mandatory health insurance system throughout the country," Aliyev added.

“The implementation of pilot projects will continue in three regions in 2019 as in 2018,” he said.

A pilot project on mandatory health insurance has been implemented in the country since late 2016, which currently covers Mingachevir city, as well as Yevlakh and Agdash regions.

The State Agency for Mandatory Health Insurance launched its activity in Azerbaijan in February 2016.
