Felipe Massa appreciates Baku’s inclusion in F1 calendar
The Baku track is very interesting, Felipe Massa, a Brazilian Formula 1 driver, who currently drives for the Williams team, told Trend on June 16.
Massa will participate in the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe to be held in Baku on June 17-19.
The driver said he became familiar with the track and believes that it is similar to those in Monaco, Sochi (Russia) and Monza (Italy).
"The track is very interesting and for the present, it is unclear what to expect from it," said Massa. "In general, I believe that the races will be interesting."
The F1 driver said he hasn't yet become familiar with Baku, but the first impressions from the city are good.
"There are many welcoming and friendly people here," he said. "It is great that such a city was included in the F1 calendar."
Formula 1 race fans will gather in Azerbaijan this weekend, as its capital will host the eighth stage of the 67th season of Grand Prix of Europe for the first time.
With a length measuring at slightly over six kilometers, the 20-corner track will be lapped 51 times, with cars reaching potential speeds of up to 340km per hour, marking the circuit out as the fastest street circuit on the existing F1 calendar.
The circuit offers a number of challenges for drivers, including an extremely narrow uphill section along the old town walls that will require pinpoint accuracy, and it has an acceleration section of almost 2.2 kilometres along the seaside promenade, which will see the cars running flat out at very high speed - something that will create an incredible show for race fans.
