Former Formula One driver, Derek Daly, will be the Driver Steward in Baku, Azerbaijan, June 17-19, Azertac reported.

The new venue for Formula One will host the Grand Prix of Europe on one of the most spectacular street circuits on the Formula One calendar. “Although it’s on the other side of the world, the trip will be fascinating if only because it’s the world’s fastest city street circuit. Charlie Whiting told me just a few days ago that it’s a ‘mega’ place,” said Daly.

Baku is a Herman Tilke designed circuit that winds around some of the city’s prominent historical sites.

Formula 1 race fans will gather in Azerbaijan on June 17-19, as its capital will host the eighth stage of the 67th season of Grand Prix of Europe for the first time.

With a length measuring at slightly over six kilometers, the 20-corner track will be lapped 51 times, with cars reaching potential speeds of up to 340km per hour, marking the circuit out as the fastest street circuit on the existing F1 calendar.

The circuit offers a number of challenges for drivers, including an extremely narrow uphill section along the old town walls that will require pinpoint accuracy, and it has an acceleration section of almost 2.2 kilometres along the seaside promenade, which will see the cars running flat out at very high speed - something that will create an incredible show for race fans.
