An exhibition entitled “Lubov Mirjavadova and France” has opened at the French Embassy in Baku.

Some 25 works were displayed by talented artist Lubov Mirjavadova, who is also the wife of famous Azerbaijani painter Javad Mirjavadov, an unfathomable genius of the 20th century.

Discussing her unique works, Mirjavadova, who creates under the pseudonym Rubaba, said that the majority of the exhibited paintings were created between 2014 and 2015 and are relevant to France.

She stressed that France inspires her by its freedom of thought, feeling, and expression and these have always attracted creative people.

“France impresses everyone. Progressive American, English writers of the early 20th century experienced these thoughts and feelings. Ernest Hemingway and Henry Miller were inspired by France,” the artist said.

She noted: “I want to thank Baku’s sky, wind, and sand which gave a big boost to my feelings.”

The artist also talked about issues that concern her. “For a year, I could not understand what exactly I did not like in one of my works. And only a few hours before the opening of the exhibition, inspiration came to me. I immediately set to work and correct an important technical detail that did not let me rest. And happy that I did it. Then I fell right to sleep in the chair... for 10 minutes,” the artist told to local media.

French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Pascal Monnier also attended the exhibition, highlighting the role and contribution of Mirjavadova in Azerbaijani art.

He said that during his three-year diplomatic mission in Baku, he has witnessed the attention that the government pays to culture and art in Azerbaijan.

“This exhibition demonstrates the author's deep attitude to the culture of France,” the ambassador noted.

The ambassador called Mirjavadova "a great friend of France," whose works are imbued with warmth and sincerity, full of colors and emotions.

The director of the British Council Azerbaijan, Elizabeth White, was also among the guests, and observed the paintings with interest.

The creativity of Mirjavadova takes its rightful place among well-known painters and graphic artists of Azerbaijan. Her works are in many private collections in Azerbaijan and abroad.

The exhibition, supported by French Institute in Baku, aroused great interest among art connoisseurs and gathered a large number of guests. It will be open for a month and all the embassy’s guests have the chance to familiarize themselves with the exhibition.
