The 7th International Music Festival dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli will be held in Baku from September 18 to 28 with the help of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry.
The festival is traditionally held annually in the country in late September, opening on National Music Day, September 18.
This year, the festival will feature famous conductors and soloists, young artists, and bands from Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Syria, Italy, Canada, Italy, and Turkey.
Music lovers will be entertained by the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, Georgian Chamber Orchestra, Russian Woodwind Quintet, Russian saxophone quartet, Michelle Campanella, Oleg Pohanovsky, Tanel Yoamets, Azmeh Keenan, Miina Järvi, and others who also will be a part of this great musical event in Baku.
Uzeyir Hajibeyli is one of the most famous and brilliant Azerbaijani composers who became the creator of Leyli and Majnun in 1908, the first opera of the Muslim East.
The composer was born in the village of Aghjabadi in Shusha, Nagorno-Karabakh, which is currently under illegal Armenian occupation.
No one in the history of modern music in Azerbaijan is recognized for having done more for Azerbaijani classical music, especially with its unique synthesis of Eastern and Western traditional musical instruments and musical forms, than Hajibeyli.
