As Azerbaijan hosts one of the most significant events in its recent history—the 1^st European Games—the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan prepares for the sixth annual Silk Road International Music Festival in Sheki.

World-renowned musicians of the East and West will converge to perform in a beautiful corner of our homeland, where the magical silk thread still produces the famous Sheki kelagai included in UNESCO's treasury of mankind. Symphonic orchestras, soloists, and virtuosos of various nationalities will show off their talents from July 1 to 5.

The uniqueness and the originality of the Silk Road Festival is that all of the activities are carried out against the backdrop of stunning landmarks—the Palace of Sheki Khans, the Yukhary Karvansaray historic complex, the Albanian church in Kish village.

The novelty of this festival will be demonstrated by different nationalities’ folklore groups living in Azerbaijan. Representatives of Azerbaijan’s various ethnicities—Lezgins, Russians, Talysh, Tatars, Udis, Tats, Ingeloids, Kurds, Meskhetian-Turks, Avars, and Sahours—will perform ethnic songs, dances, and rituals on July 3 and 4.

This extravaganza of colors and sounds is made possible with the support of the Baku International Center of multiculturalism, which began its work a year ago by Azerbaijani presidential decree.

The idea of brotherhood, friendship, and mutual understanding, which was expressed by the Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee of the Baku 2015 European Games, First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, will continue in Sheki during the Sheki International Music Festival.
