As part of the project “From the regions to the capital” organized by Baku Culture and Tourism Department, an event devoted to one of the country’s most picturesque regions, Gadabay was solemnly held on April 27.

The event aimed to familiarize Azerbaijanis as well as foreign tourists with the country’s rich culture and traditions took place at the Azerbaijan State Youth Theatre.

Many art and official figures, including Abulfaz Garayev, the culture and tourism minister and Dusen Kaseinov, the TURKSOY Secretary General attended the event.

The event’s guests were informed about the work, projects and events implemented in Gadabay, as well as the achievements made in the economic and tourism sectors, and of course culture and art.

Such crafts as hand embroidery, carpet weaving, wood carving and metal are the main folk crafts of the region.

Visitors had a chance to closely get familiar with the rich culture and traditions of the beautiful region. The exhibition put on display masters of applied art’s work, prints and ethnic dishes. The region saw such art rise thanks to its gold and copper mines.

Gadabay is one of the cleanest cities in the world. Both the clean air and a healthy lifestyle have made this land the home of many centenarians. More than 100 people who celebrated the 100-year milestone were registered in this oxygen-rich region of Azerbaijan.

Gadabay’s fauna and flora are also valuable, as the rivers flowing through the region are rich in trout. The region has about thirty mineral springs, which locals call the "cure of thousands diseases." The region is surrounded with mountain forests and poppy fields. Near Gadabay there lies the Slavyanka village, which is famous for its famous healthy carbonated water sources - Narzan and Mor-Mor.

The area called Shahzada is a place you must visit. The 18-20 height meters ice waterfall will cool your body in a hot summer day.

Monuments in Gadabay region are an integral part of the Azerbaijani culture, known here as Gadabay-Khojaly culture.

Koroglu Castle related to the 18th century is a grandiose showplace of the Gadabay region. The castle’s walls are one meter thick and the monument has a strategic location. Another must see place in the region is Giz Galasi also known as the Maiden Tower.

The rich nature and fertile land have also affected the region’s cuisine, which is impossible to resist with its delicious kebabs from mutton, beef and fish. Visitors also tasted delicious samples of Gadabay’s cuisine. Gagabay’s potato is considered to be one of the best in the country.

Gadabay is also famous for its Ashiqs. The art of Azerbaijani Ashiqs was included in the UNESCO`s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009, as a symbol of national cultural identity that embodies various artistic spheres practiced by poets, composers, singers or actor-narrators, thus uniting in one artistic expression the communities of the entire country.

During the event visitors also enjoyed a concert program with folk and dance groups, as well as bright performance of Ashiqs.
