“Seven Beauties” by Gara Garayev to be staged in Belarus

Prominent Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev’s famous ballet “Seven Beauties” will be staged at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre in Minsk on December 6.

“Seven Beauties” involves Yuri Puzakov as aballet master, Andrei Ivanov as a conductor.

Premiere of the beautiful ballet was held in Belarus capital in 2013.

“Seven Beauties” is Gara Garayev's second ballet that is staged by Bolshoi Theater, following the "Path of Thunder" in 1960.

Garayev is one of those great composers who have enriched the Azerbaijani music with his immense legacy. He is the author of nearly 110 pieces, including ballets, operas, symphonic and chamber pieces, piano solos, cantatas, songs, and marches.

The great composer juxtaposed features of Mugham with jazz, blues, African music, European counterpoint styles, and developments related to the 20th century Western music such as the 12-tone technique.

His music combines a strict, logical spirit of classicism with a poignant, romantic passion. After years of creating consonant and tonal pieces, he turned to a dissonant style in which links with folklore became less obvious, especially in such works as the Third Symphony and Violin Concerto.

The first staging of the ballet was held in the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Baku on November 7, 1952. Gorgeous, bright, colorful ballet music became the key to happy and long life of the work at stage.
