Baku to host Turkish symphony concert

Turkey's Bilkent Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is set to hold a concert in Baku's Hedar Aliyev Cultural Center on January 29.

Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, Togrul Ganiev will perform at the concert to be led by conductor and artistic director Ishin Metin.

Music pieces from artists like Ulvi Cemal Erkin, Felix Mendelssohn and Sergei Rachmaninoff will be played by the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, who has been UNICEF Turkey Goodwill Ambassador since 2009.

BSO, a major symphony orchestra of Turkey based in Bilkent, Ankara, was founded in 1993 by Bilkent University. It's been performing in Bilkent Concert Hall since 1994.

Since its foundation, the orchestra has been awarded by several organizations such as Ankara Public Relations Association and Mevlana Foundation.

Moreover, UNICEF has recognized BSO as UNICEF Turkey Goodwill Ambassador for its efforts to aid children in need in various regions of the world, specifically for the two CDs dedicated to the victims of Izmit earthquake back in 1999 and several other concerts held to donate money to the victims of Pakistan's last earthquake.

The BSO was also awarded as the best orchestra of Turkey by Andante Music Magazine in 2011.

One of the main goals of the orchestra is to create a musical bridge between countries. To this purpose, the orchestra has performed at many international festivals in Italy, San Marino and Switzerland. It has also given concerts in Germany, Portugal, Belgium and Japan.
