Azerbaijani culture presented in France's Niort

Niort, a commune in the Deux-Sèvres department in western France, has hosted an event as part of the project "Cultural values of Azerbaijan - Pearl of the Caucasus".

The event was held under the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijan's Embassy in France to promote rich history and cultural values of Azerbaijan.

The event started with the exhibition at Le Moulin du Roc Scène Nationale, which was attended by the mayor of the city Mrs. Genevieve Gayard.

Addressing the opening of the exhibition, Gayard noted that the residents of Niort know little about Azerbaijani culture and art.

"Now they have the great opportunity to familiarize themselves with the culture of Azerbaijan," she said.

Gayard also recalled the visit of the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva to France in connection with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and France, stressed the importance of further development of cooperation in the field of culture between the two countries.

Emphasizing the development of relations between Azerbaijan and France in all areas, including in the cultural field, Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Elchin Amirbekov said about the Paris-hosted traditional events on Azerbaijani culture. Stressing that diplomatic efforts are now focused on the further development of relations in the cultural and economic cooperation, the ambassador said the special importance is attached to the development of cooperation in the field of viticulture, which is developed in France.

The ambassador noted that Azerbaijan regained its independence in 1991, remaining faithful to the traditions of tolerance of different religions in relation to indigenous minorities and in the construction and development of a secular society based on democratic values such as freedom of speech and thought.
