Baku-born may represent Armenia at Eurovision – reports

A Baku-born singer may represent Armenia at the next Eurovision song contest to be held in the Azerbaijani capital in May 2012, Armenian media reported.
Lucia Moon (Babayants), who currently lives in Los Angeles, will reportedly perform a love song at the contest.
Moon spent her childhood and adolescence years in Baku. According to the Azg newspaper, her father, a doctor, moved to Armenia with his family after the disturbances in the Azerbaijani town of Sumgayit in 1988, amid flaring conflict between the two South Caucasus republics. They further moved to the United States where Lucia graduated from a Californian university with a degree in psychology.
For many years, Lucia, who boasted a good voice, sang in a Los Angeles choir called "Yerevan". She released her first album, "Lioness", in 2005. That same year, the album won the top international prize at the Armenian Music Awards. Lately, she reportedly sang a song about the alleged World War I-era "genocide" of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey.
Armenian media reported earlier that the country’s participation at Eurovision in Baku was under a question mark. Head of Armenia’s public TV channel, Alexan Arutyunan, said Armenia was not satisfied with Azerbaijan’s pledge to ensure its singers’ safety and had asked the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to address the matter.
The reports also said Armenia will pass a final decision in December on its participation at the next Eurovision contest.
Azerbaijani duo Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell/Nikki) with their pop-ballad "Running Scared" won the Eurovision contest this year in Dusseldorf, Germany.
