Capital to host Folk Art International Festival of Traditional Crafts

From September 28 to October 4, Folk Art Baku International Festival of Traditional Crafts will be held for the first time in Azerbaijan.
The festival will be co-organized by the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve together with the Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), Day.Az reported.
Within the festival, the first Baku International Congress "Prospects for the development of arts and crafts of the Islamic world" will also be held.
Founded in 1980 and having gained the sympathy of the entire world community in a short time, IRCICA unites 56 Islamic countries and is the cultural center of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The center constantly strengthens ties between international academic and cultural institutions. Particular attention is paid to the preservation of historical and cultural values and their promotion in the international arena, cooperation with leading international organizations in order to promote the rich cultural heritage of Islam.
In October 2018, the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve, together with the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, held the first International Scientific Conference "Journey from modern Azerbaijan to the historical state of the Shirvanshahs".
The conference was attended by 150 foreign guests from 30 countries. Halit Eren, Director General of Research Center for Islamic History, Arts and Culture (IRCICA), was among those invited. Then it was proposed to hold the 1st Baku IRCICA Festival in 2019.
On November 26, 2018, an agreement was signed in Istanbul between the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve and the IRCICA on mutual cooperation, expanding relations between Islamic countries and regular joint activities.
The continuation of this cooperation was the signing on May 2, 2019 of the memorandum on holding the 1st Folk Art International Festival of Traditional Crafts from September 28 to October 4 of this year.
The festival, in which more than 30 countries of the Islamic world will take part, promotes the material and cultural heritage of Islam not only in an artistic format, but also in a scientific direction.
Scientists and experts on 14 different topics will take part in the cultural dialogue of the Baku International Congress "Prospects for the development of arts and crafts of the Islamic world".
The Baku Festival will contribute to the renewal of the rich and diverse Islamic culture, while preserving its traditions.
More than 50 masters from Islamic countries and international organizations will bring to the public the works of arts and crafts: samples of miniature art, jewelry, furs, paintings, carpets, national costumes, batik art, metalworking, woodworking, stucco molding, handmade papers, etc.
The festival winners will be awarded with cash prizes.
