Memory of prominent theater and film actor to be honored

The 125th anniversary of prominent theater and film actor, People's Artist Mustafa Mardanov will be marked in Baku.

Azerbaijan State Drama Theater will host an event dedicated to actor on February 28, Azertag reported.

The event will discuss the life and creativity of the outstanding artist, as well as his contribution to the development of theater and cinema in Azerbaijan.

After the event, the play "The Government Inspector" by Nikolay Gogol will be presented to the audience.

National actors Rafael Dadashov, Ramiz Novruz, Rafig Azimov, honored artists Elshan Jabrayilov, Shalala Shahveldigizi, Nigar Gulahmadova, Kazim Hasanguliyev, Mazahir Jalilov, Elhan Guliyev and others will perform in the play.

The play was staged by order of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan.

The play is directed by Mikayıl Mikayılov. The work was translated by Sabit Rahman. Art director of the play is Ilham Elhanoglu, music- Kamil Ismayilov.

Mustafa Mardanov won the hearts of millions with great acting skills, unique charisma and a great sense of humour.

His first roles in the theater were the roles of Haji Ganbar (From the rain and under the downpour) Karamali (Haji Kara), Adham (Nadir Shah).

Mardanov's work was greatly influenced by the acting school in Azerbaijan at that time.

Mustafa Mardanov was surrounded by the great actors of Azerbaijan, such as Abbas Mirza Sharifzadeh, Sidgi Ruhulla, Agasadig Garaybayli, Alaskar Alakparov, who inspired him a lot.

The actor's best roles include Atakishi, Imamverdi (Sevil), Luka (At the bottom),Polonius (Hamlet), Sganarelle ( Don Juan" ,Moliere ), Khlestakov (The Government Inspector), etc.

Mustafa Mardanov was one of the first and famous Azerbaijani movie actors. The role of "Muzdur Gulu" was the first role of M.Mardanov in the film "Bismillah". This film was the first director's work of Abbas Mirza Sharifzade, which was an example of silent film (1925).

Mardanov starred in such films as "In the Name of God", "Haji Gara", "Sevil", "Lyatif", "Baku People", "Kandlilar", "Sabuhi", "Black Stones", "Morning", "Meeting" , "Where is Ahmed?" and others.

He became very popular with the role of intelligent Hasan-bek in the film "Not that, so this". The first significant role of M.Mardanov in the cinema is the role of Karamali in the film "Haji Gara".

From 1922 to 1924 he studied at the Moscow State Institute of Theater Arts.

Unfortunately, Mustafa Mardanov died in 1968 in Baku.

His creativity will be forever remembered by the Azerbaijani people.
