National Artist Rafig Mehdiyev to be commemorated

The Museum Center of the Ministry of Culture will host an event dedicated to the 85th anniversary of national artist Rafig Mehdiyev on October 30.

The event is organized by the Azerbaijan State Art Gallery and will take place within the framework of the "Iz" project. It will tell about the artist's life and creativity and his art activity.

A number of works by Rafig Mehdiyev is planned to be presented at the event.

Rafig Mehdiyev was born on June 10, 1933, in the Shahbuz region. In 1948-1953, he studied at the Azim Azimzade Painting School, in 1953-1958 - at the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute, Faculty of Graphics.

The Russian school of painting had a great influence on his creativity. The artist worked in the field of book graphics for a long time. He painted illustrations for the works “Mailbox”, “The Bearded Child”, “History of the Danabash Village” and “Gurbanalibey” by famous Azerbaijani writer and satirist Jalil Mammadguluzade.

Machine graphics play an important role in the artist's creative work. The lyrical rural landscapes are reflected in such etchings as “Evening” and “Morning” (1970s). The works created by his linear technique are interesting.

Rafig Mehdiyev created a number of monotypic methods too. These are “Village”, “Children”, “Women with Children”, “At the market”, “One Line”, “Last Day”, “Shot”, “After the Rain”. Along with machine graphics, the artist created such beautiful and interesting paintings as “Collectors of grapes”, “A fresh news”, “Rest” and “Still Life”, which were successfully presented at the republican art exhibition “To love work”. Mehdiyev became an honored artist of Azerbaijan in 1992.
