Global crisis `causing return of migrants`
Azerbaijanis living abroad have begun returning home
and this trend will continue on a wider scale if the global
economic crisis persists, causing some problems for the national
economy, a local expert says.
"The return of Azerbaijanis living in Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine is in evidence. Moreover, the data coming from western Europe - especially Germany - indicates that Azerbaijani migrants living in this country are considering a return to their home country as well," said Alovsat Aliyev, the head of the Center for Legal Assistance to Migrants.
He went on to say that the mass return of Azerbaijani migrants would cause increasing social tensions in the country, as this will significantly reduce the influx of cash from abroad. Secondly, the unemployment rate in Azerbaijan will increase. Finally, economic challenges facing the country will affect other areas of life.
The implications may even spark a disruption of political stability, the expert concluded.
