Prices for construction materials down 20%
Prices for construction materials in Azerbaijan have
fallen by up to 20% in recent months.
Nearly half of the 82 types of products used in the domestic construction market have become cheaper, while the prices for other materials remain stable.
The decrease has mainly been seen in prices for foreign-made goods, while the trend has not been reflected in local construction materials. The tendency is due to rising domestic production and the gradual squeezing out of imported goods from the market due to their lack of competitiveness, industry experts say.
Observers note that the fall in prices has been fueled by decreasing prices for construction materials imported from Turkey, Russia and Ukraine in conjunction with the global financial crisis.
At the same time, the price decrease has increased the country`s purchasing power. This trend is expected to continue until March 2009, according to projections.
