Azerbaijan and Dagestan can increase their close and productive ties in the customs field, Dagestan President Ramazan Abdullatipov said at the meeting with Ruslan Yahyayev, Head of Dagestan Customs.

Addressing the meeting, Abdullatipov said that his country has common borders with several countries. However its foreign trade turnover is still low.

Yahyayev, for his turn, noted that Dagestan is the only subject of Russia, which has a land border with Azerbaijan.

He said that the country has seven checkpoints, recalling the recently operating of “Viaduk” Customs and logistics terminal in Magaramkent district. Its capacity is 300 heavy vehicles per day.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Dagestan constituted $136.84 million in the first three quarters of 2014, while import of Azerbaijani production made up $122.12 million and export to Azerbaijan - $14.7 million in the same period.

Trade turnover between the two sides increased by 30.77 percent compared to 2013. The total trade of Dagestan with other countries stands at 31.9 percent.

The main items of Dagestan export to Azerbaijan are large and small cattle, fish, vegetables, plastics, wood, and etc. Dagestan imports most of its agricultural products from Azerbaijan.
