Employers illegally hiring foreigners to face hefty fines
New employment rules will allow foreign nationals to be employed in Azerbaijan only after receiving government permission and those violating the regulations will be fined, the State Labor Inspection chief has announced.
Nabi Shukurlu said the new employment measures are part of changes being planned for the country`s Labor Code. Those employers failing to obtain authorization from the state will be subject to disciplinary measures, including fines ranging between 30,000 and 35,000 manats (up to $43,000).
At the same time, Shukurlu emphasized that no restrictions will be imposed on the legal hiring of foreign citizens.
"There are no problems with hiring foreign nationals. Simply, employers are responsible for applying to the respective government agency to obtain a relevant document. The paper is granted by the migration service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. It must cite which field the foreign specialist will work in and the lack of specialists in this field in Azerbaijan."
