The news was announced at a meeting in Baku between Azerbaijan's Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov, Intelsat CEO David McGlade and President Stephen Spengler.
Abbasov informed the leadership of the Intelsat about satellite program in Azerbaijan and further plans on launching telecommunication and low-Earth orbit satellites.

Moreover, Azerbaijani space agency "Azercosmos" plans to launch a low-Earth orbit satellite in 2016.
