Foreign investments in economy rise over 14 pct

The total volume of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy in January-October amounted to 2.351.8 billion manat, which is 14.7 percent more than in the same period of 2011, State Statistics Committee said on Monday.

In January-October, 90.6 percent (2.129.7 billion manat) of investments in Azerbaijan's economy made by foreign countries and international organizations fell to investors from the UK, U.S., Japan, Norway, Turkey, Czech Republic and France.

As before, the UK continues to retain its leading position in this list. Its share in total foreign investments hit 47.5 percent, while its investments amounted to 1.117 billion manat.

Investments of the U.S. amounted to 370.368 million manat (15.8 per cent), Japan - 249.499 million manat (10.6 percent), Norway - 136.3 million manat (5.8 percent), Turkey - 107.5 million manat (4.6 percent), Czech Republic - 108.5 million manat ( 4.6 percent), France - 40.2 million manat (1.7 percent), Saudi Arabia -3.03 million manat (0.1 percent), Korea - 10.7 million manat (0.5 percent), Germany - 3.07 million manat (0.2 percent), Gambia - 846,000 manat and Italy - 298,000 manat.

From international financial institutions, the World Bank invested 108 million manat with share of 4.6 percent, the Asian Development Bank - 88.929 million manat (3.8 percent), the Islamic Development Bank - 2.3 million manat (0.1 percent), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development - 71.9 million manat.

During the three quarters, the largest volume of foreign investments in the country was made in April (258.9 million manat).
