WB selects its new head in Azerbaijan

The World Bank has decided on a new Country Manager for Azerbaijan and will soon submit his candidacy to the government, the WB Baku Office told Trend news agency on Thursday. The bank declined to disclose the name of the new manager prior to submission to the government.

The WB office said the candidacy of the bank's new representative has already been approved by the government.

A relevant notification was sent to the government earlier this week, the office said, adding that pursuant to the procedures of the bank, if, within 48 hours no information is received that this candidate is not desirable, it is automatically considered approved by the government.

The term of office of the former WB head in Azerbaijan, Joseph Owen, ended in late July.

The Country Manager is usually appointed for three years, but this term could be extended for a fourth year.

Joseph Owen had been the World Bank's representative in Azerbaijan from the summer of 2010. His predecessor, Gregory Jedrzejczak, held this position for four years.
