Russia, Iran yet to agree on regional energy project

The issue regarding the project on synchronization of the energy systems of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran "remains open", as the Russian and Iranian positions have not yet been agreed, Marlen Asgarov, vice-president of the Azerbaijani state-owned energy producer Azerenergy, told the Baku-based Trend news agency.

"The Azerbaijani and Iranian sides have conducted all necessary operations to reconstruct and lay transmission lines to ensure electric power supplies, while Russia has not carried out the operations yet," Asgarov said.

He said that Russia calls on Iran to provide the data about the desired volume of electricity and fees to determine the reasonability of the reconstruction operations on its territory.

The project will allow to exchange electric power among the three countries, as well as to draw other regional countries to its implementation. Earlier, Moscow and Tehran were negotiating the type of their cooperation, with one of the parties insisting on mutual sale of electric power, while the other - on its exchange.
