Mexico, Azerbaijan to boost oil and trade co-op: MP
Azerbaijan and Mexico intend to expand cooperation in the oil and trade sectors, member of the Mexican Senate Carlos Jimenez Macias, who heads a delegation of Mexican lawmakers visiting Baku, said Tuesday.
Macias told the press that Mexico is one of the region’s leading countries in the oil sector and could therefore implement various projects in this field jointly with Azerbaijan.
According to him, Azerbaijan has gained success in poverty reduction, and given that Mexico is facing the poverty problem, it plans to study the country’s relevant experience.
Macias also said the Mexican Senate supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and backs Baku within a number of international organizations.
"I hope that the conflict [between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno Karabakh] will be settled peacefully," he added.
About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, including Nagorno Karabakh, has been under the occupation of Armenian armed forces since the 1994 ceasefire. Numerous rounds of OSCE-brokered negotiations have been largely fruitless so far.
