EU to launch electronic auditing project in Azerbaijan
BAKU – The European Union on Thursday will launch a new project to support Azerbaijan’s government in the field of "computer assisted audit system", according to the EU delegation to Azerbaijan.
The twinning project is supported by the country’s Ministry of Taxes and the Netherlands Tax and Customs Administration.
The event to be held in Baku will be joined by Minister of Taxes Fazil Mammadov, Dutch Ambassador Arjen Uijterlinde and Head of the EU Delegation Roland Kobia.
In line with the EU-Azerbaijan European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) Action Plan, the EU’s two-year project is aimed at supporting Azerbaijan in its efforts to develop and implement an electronic audit system. The project will provide assistance to the Ministry of Taxes and other relevant public entities. The purpose of the project is to improve capacity and work of the Ministry of Taxes in the field of audit through implementation of an electronic audit system compliant with EU and international practice.
The EU will allocate 1.1 million manats ($1.39 million) for the project, which will help increase and improve the cooperation between an EU Member State administration and its Azerbaijani counterpart.
The EU twinning instrument is an instrument for targeted administrative cooperation to assist countries in strengthening their administrative and juridical capacity to implement EU legislation. It is designed as a tool to contribute to the gradual reshaping of administrative structures through the transfer of knowledge on EU legislation, standards and practices. Practically, the tool allows the establishment of a strong and result-oriented relationship between similar governmental bodies or institutions in the EU member states and the beneficiary country.
