Azeri gov’t rules out grain shortage as major storage is launched
BAKU – A major storage that will help to meet Azerbaijan’s needs for grain was commissioned in Baku on Tuesday.
The Sangachal grain elevator, which is a warehouse supplied with mechanical devices, was launched in a ceremony attended by the ministers of emergency situations, economic development and agriculture.
The facility, owned by the emergencies ministry, contains 10 storage tanks each with loading capacity of 10,000 tons.
Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov told reporters that construction of such an elevator with the capacity of 30,000 tons has been completed in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic as well. Also, a 60,000-ton warehouse being built in Ganja, the country’s second largest city, will be put into operation in a month’s time. Moreover, a project on constructing a new grain elevator with the capacity of 100,000 tons is under consideration.
"In total, the emergencies ministry’s elevators will be capable of storing up to 290,000 tons of grain. This means that in case of any crisis, there will be no shortage of grain and bread, and the country will be provided with wheat for a long term."
