Big prospects for bilateral co-op: Russian official

‘The power engineering is a key sphere for economic cooperation between the two countries’

BAKU – The visiting Russian presidential administration chief, Mr. Sergei Narishkin said in Baku Monday that there are big prospects for bilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The Russian official made this statement after meeting with the chief of the Azeri Presidential Administration, Mr. Ramiz Mehdiyev.

Mr. Narishkin pointed out that the power engineering is a key sphere for economic cooperation between the two countries. He said the new contracts in gas and power engineering were signed.

Mr. Narishkin told journalists that the issues concerning political, economic and social cooperation were on agenda during the meeting with the Azeri Presidential Administration Chief.

"Our countries’ positions coincide in the majority of international issues. We are happy with the bilateral economic cooperation. In spite of the global economic crisis, only small decline in the bilateral trade turnover was seen last year. We will surely soon restore the level of bilateral trade turnover that existed in 2008," he was quoted as saying.
