Iran offers Azerbaijan access to world markets via its territory
Iran is offering Azerbaijan access to world markets via its
territory.
Azerbaijan, in its turn, could alleviate Iran's joining the markets of the Caucasus, CIS and Europe, the visiting Iranian Minister of Economy and Finance Mr Shamsaddin Husseini said in Baku last week.
Mr Husseini said Iran plans to increase cooperation with Azerbaijan in the gas sector.
Iran and Azerbaijan have agreed to sign a document on the purchase of five billion cubic meters of Azeri gas per year. Iran also expressed its interest in joint construction of petrochemical plants in Iran to process Azeri gas.
One of the key issues discussed during the visit was the involvement of Azerbaijan's private investors in the privatization program in Iran.
"We welcome the participation of foreign capital in the privatization process in our country, and, in particular, we welcome entrepreneurs of brotherly Azerbaijan. We invite Azerbaijani businessmen to invest in oil processing sphere of Iran," Iranian minister said.
Also on agenda was the "North-South" railway project, which will link the countries of Europe and Asia through Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran. Mr Husseini said his country is keen on boosting the realization of the project.
