Azerbaijan-Belarus trade turnover made up $58.3 million in January-April 2010, up 32% from the same period of last year, according to Belarusian Ambassador in Baku Nikolay Paskevich.
He told a press conference Tuesday that bilateral trade is rising by the year. Thus, the figure reached $124.6 million in 2009, 10% up from 2008.
The ambassador said Azerbaijan mainly exported juices, fruits and vegetables, oil, tobacco and chemical industry goods to Belarus. The South Caucasus republic delivered 1,200 tons of agricultural goods worth $1.6m to the country in 2009. Belarus exported food, medicine, construction supplies, mechanical engineering products and electric appliances. The exports to Azerbaijan included 7,800 tons of agri-industrial goods totaling $3m.
Paskevich said the cited figures could be considered reassuring.
He said, further, that projects in such fields as joint production of elevators and optical products are planned in the future.
The ambassador added that Belarus intends to look into streamlining the transportation of Azerbaijani oil to its refineries through Ukrainian territory.
