Scores of state businesses to change hands in 2008
170-180 Azerbaijani major state-owned enterprises are to be put up
for privatization this year, an official from the state body in
charge has said.
"Most of these enterprises, which will be privatized either through investment tenders or auctions, are obsolete," deputy chairman of the State Committee for Property Management Rustam Shahbazov told journalists.
Shahbazov said most of the equipment used and the overall working conditions at these enterprises fail to meet high standards, and their privatization aims to draw investors to make improvements. Transferring the businesses to private owners will allow to carry out an upgrade and supply them with up-to-date technologies.
