Italy tops Azerbaijan’s exports in Jan.
Azerbaijan sold the most goods to Italy this January due to increasing oil exports. Exports to Italy amounted to $611.9 million, compared to $238.2 million reported in January 2009, the State Customs Committee told AssA-Irada.
The country’s share in the South Caucasus republic’s exports so far this year rose from 34.9% to 42.8% in comparison with the same period of 2009.
Indonesia was the second largest buyer of Azerbaijani goods in January. Indonesia’s imports from Azerbaijan made up $138.4m, and its share in the country’s exports increased to 9.69%.
The United States was the sixth largest importer, buying $72.7m worth of goods. The country’s share in Azerbaijan’s exports more than halved to slightly over 5%. Azerbaijan’s exports to France constituted around $120.2m, while Israel and Canada imported about $77m each. Taiwan imported goods totaling $71.3m, while Thailand $53.5m.
As for imports, Russia retained the leading position. Though the volume of Russian commodities delivered to Azerbaijan in the first month of 2010 decreased compared to January 2009, the northern neighbor’s share in the country’s overall imports increased. Thus, imports from Russia decreased to $74.7m from $82.7m, but, in contrast, the country’s share in Azerbaijan’s imports rose to about 20.5% from 15.9%.
Turkey accounted for 11% of Azerbaijan’s imports, while Germany almost 8.7%, Ukraine 6.9%, China 6.7%, France $5.5m, Kazakhstan 4%, Brazil 2.9%, the U.S. 2.7%, and Britain 2.5%.*
