KOICA launches irrigation upgrade project
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has launched a
$3.4 million project aiming to improve Azerbaijan’s irrigation
system. The inception meeting on the project, "Feasibility study
and detailed design for upgrading water intake structure at
northern rivers and improvement of the Absheron main canal for
irrigation", was held in Baku last Friday, the KOICA Office in
Azerbaijan told AzerNEWS.
The Korea Engineering Consultants Corporation (KECC), as an implementing company of the KOICA project, presented the objectives of the project with an overall work schedule. During the meeting, there was also a discussion aiming to explore opportunities for streamlining the project and overall cooperation between Azerbaijan and Korea.
The site of the project, which will be carried out in 2009 and 2010, is the basin of the Gusar river and the 73km Absheron canal.
The activities of the project include studying an optimized methodology of irrigation for Azerbaijan; conducting a training program for Azerbaijani officials and specialists; and providing the necessary electronic equipment, such as computers and printers.
KOICA aims at strengthening partnerships and promoting mutual exchanges with developing countries, assisting their economic and social development, and thereby fostering international development cooperation. *
