Azerbaijan to ban imports of old cars
Imports of vehicles falling short of European standards to
Azerbaijan will be banned from July 1, the state body in charge of
patents and standards has announced.
Ramiz Hasanov, the head of State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents, told a press conference Friday that the Euro-2 standard will be applied in Azerbaijan from July, and using imported cars incompliant with it will be forbidden.
The new regulations will not affect vehicles delivered to the country prior to the mentioned date, Hasanov said.
The Committee chairman added that European countries are currently applying the Euro-5 standard, which can be applied in Azerbaijan no earlier than in ten years.*
