Azerbaijan exporting power to Russia
Azerbaijan is exporting 200,000 to 250,000 KWt/hour a day of
electric power to Russia, according to Marlen Asgarov,
vice-president of the state-owned energy producer Azerenergy.
According to him, electricity is being supplied to the northern neighbor during the night, when there is an abundance of power in the country. He said it would be unprofitable for Azerenergy to halt the operation of major power plants at this time of the day, as turning a power plant on and off poses a risk of wasting time and money.
Touching on the project aiming to link the energy distribution systems of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia, Asgarov said Moscow and Tehran are negotiating the issue.
"Azerbaijan is ready to implement this project, as it will allow exporting its own electricity as well bring in revenues from the transit of power through its territory," the Azerenergy vice-president said.*
